Ordering jerseys for a whole family means choosing four or five sizes at once, across adult, women’s, youth, toddler and baby ranges. This guide explains how each range fits, how to measure, and how to choose when someone is between sizes. Exact garment measurements for each size are not listed on this page yet, so use the comparison method in section 2, which works for every product, and email us if you want help with a specific size.

Baby and toddler labels follow the usual age naming, but children of the same age vary a lot. Treat the age in the label as a starting point, not a rule, and compare with clothes that fit now.

2. How to measure: the shirt comparison method

The most reliable way to choose a size is to compare with a garment the person already wears and likes. You need a tape measure and a flat surface.

  1. Pick a reference shirt. Choose a T-shirt or jersey that fits the way the person likes: snug, regular or loose. For hoodies, use a hoodie.
  2. Lay it flat on a table, front facing up, and smooth out wrinkles without stretching it.
  3. Chest width: measure straight across the shirt from one armpit seam to the other, 2-3 cm below the armpits.
  4. Body length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the hem.
  5. Sleeve: for long sleeves, measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
  6. Write the numbers down with the person’s name. For a family order, make one line per person.

Then email those measurements to support@jerseyyard.shop with the product name, and we will tell you which size is the closest match. We reply within 24 hours on business days.

Measuring a child

Children rarely stand still for a tape measure, which is another reason the shirt method works well. Use a shirt that fits now and note whether it is already getting short at the hem or tight across the shoulders; if so, size up.

Measuring a baby

For babies, the bodysuit length matters most. Compare with a bodysuit that fits now, measuring from the shoulder to the snap closure. If the current bodysuit is snug when snapped, choose the next size.

3. Choosing between two sizes

  • For the classic stadium look, choose the larger size. Football jerseys are traditionally worn loose.
  • To wear a hoodie or long-sleeve underneath, go up one size on adult jerseys.
  • For a neater fit, choose your usual T-shirt size on adult jerseys, or a women’s style instead of the unisex range.
  • For growing kids, one size up usually lasts a full season; roll the sleeves for the first weeks.
  • For gifts, choose the size of a T-shirt the person wears most often. Exchanges are free within 60 days.

4. Notes for specific products

Adult jerseys

The custom mesh jersey, DAD 01, Tailgate Captain, Backyard League and the Home & Away practice jersey all use a relaxed unisex cut. The PAPA 01 raglan has a slightly roomier shoulder because of the raglan sleeve; most people keep their usual size. The practice jersey is a little shorter than the others.

Women’s jerseys

The custom V-neck, MOM 01 and the lace-up Kickoff jersey follow a women’s cut and fit closer than the unisex range; if you like room to layer, go up one size. The Game Day Glam jersey is oversized on purpose: take your usual size for a slouchy look, or one size down for a regular oversized fit. The Sunday Funday long sleeve is relaxed.

Youth jerseys

The custom youth jersey, ROOKIE 00 and the Sibling Squad jerseys have a relaxed youth fit. The Backyard 10 flag football jersey has a shorter hem so a flag belt stays visible. The First Down raglan long sleeve is a regular fit; size up to layer it over a tee.

Toddler and baby

The Mini MVP toddler tee follows toddler sizing 2T to 5T. The custom baby bodysuit and the Rookie of the Year bodysuit run from newborn to 18-24 months. The bib and beanie set is one size for about 0-12 months.

Tees, hoodies and sweatshirts

The Yard Lines tee and the Football Laces long sleeve are regular unisex fits. The Family Game Day hoodie and the Tailgate Season crewneck are relaxed; go one size up to wear them over a jersey or for an oversized look. The quarter-zip is a regular fit, closer than the hoodie.

5. Moving from youth to adult sizes

The most common sizing question in family orders is when a child should move from youth to adult sizes. There is no fixed age. Compare a shirt that fits the child now with both the youth and adult ranges using the shirt method. Many teenagers fit an adult S or M in a relaxed jersey even before they have outgrown youth XL in a fitted tee. If the reference shirt is an adult size already, stay in adult sizes.

6. Building a family set

For a matching family set, size each person in their own range rather than trying to make everyone fit one range:

Dad, grandpa, older teensAdult S-3XLUsual T-shirt size, or one up for a layer underneath

7. Size add-ons

On some products, larger sizes have a small add-on, shown on the product page as soon as you select the size: for example 2XL and 3XL on adult jerseys and apparel, and 2XL on women’s jerseys. The 60 × 80 in stadium blanket and the 18 × 18 in pillow cover also cost a little more than the smaller size.

8. If the size is not right

You have 60 days from delivery to exchange or return any item, as long as it is unworn and unwashed. We send a free return label, even for size exchanges, and ship the new size free. For a custom piece, tell us the name and number for the replacement exactly as they should be printed. Try new items on over a T-shirt and keep them unwashed until you are sure. 10. Fit examples

These examples show how the advice above works in practice.

  • A dad who wears a men’s L T-shirt and wants to wear a hoodie under his jersey on cold Saturday mornings: adult XL in the custom mesh jersey.
  • A mom who wears a women’s M and likes a fitted look: women’s M in the custom V-neck. If she prefers it loose and long over leggings: women’s M in the Game Day Glam oversized jersey.
  • A nine-year-old whose favourite tee is a youth M that is getting short: Youth L, worn with rolled sleeves for the first weeks.
  • A fourteen-year-old who already wears adult S tees: adult S in the relaxed jersey; youth sizes would be too short.
  • A seven-month-old baby in 6-12M clothes, with a game three months away: 12-18M in the custom baby bodysuit.
  • A grandfather whose size you are not sure about: the size of the tee he wears most often, in the PAPA 01 raglan. If it is wrong, he can exchange it free within 60 days.

11. Layering for cold-weather games

Late-season games can be cold, and many families wear jerseys as an outer layer over warmer clothes. Plan sizes accordingly:

  • Jersey over a long-sleeve tee: your usual size is usually enough in the relaxed adult range.
  • Jersey over a hoodie: one size up in adult jerseys; women’s fitted styles are not designed to go over a hoodie, so choose the oversized jersey or an adult jersey instead.
  • Hoodie over a jersey: one size up in the Family Game Day hoodie so the jersey sits flat underneath.
  • Kids: the First Down raglan long sleeve is a good base layer under a youth jersey in the same youth size.

12. Washing and fit over time

Following the care instructions helps garments keep their size and the print stay sharp. Wash inside out in cold water, and hang to dry or tumble dry on low. High heat in the dryer is a common reason garments feel smaller after a few washes. If you are between sizes and plan to tumble dry often, the larger size is the safer choice.

13. Hats, blankets and other gear

The trucker hat has an adjustable snap closure that fits most adults. The bib and beanie set is one size for about 0-12 months. The stadium blanket comes in 50 × 60 in, a lap size for one or two people, and 60 × 80 in, large enough to share on a couch. The pillow cover comes in 16 × 16 in and 18 × 18 in; choose an insert one or two inches larger for a full look. The tumbler holds 20 oz and the garden flag is about 12 × 18 in.

Writing down a family’s sizes

Before ordering for a group, write a simple list with one line per person: name, range (adult, women’s, youth, toddler or baby), size, and the name and number for the back. Check it against the cart before you pay. It takes two minutes and avoids most exchanges.
